Happiness makes us productive, keeps us healthier, and therefore extends our lives. But is happiness the only emotion we can experience? What about sadness, peace, anger, jealousy, and all the other feelings? Are these not a part of our life?

Defining happiness

What is happiness? We must first know the meaning of happiness to be truly happy.

Happiness is a state of mind. The feeling you live when you feel you have achieved what you wanted, materialistic or feeling - wise. Though, this state lasts only for a while.

Colorful Emotions

Emotions are multi-faceted. What you were happy about once, might be a sad emotion now. You made many happy memories when you were with your friends but now they are painted blue because you are not with them now. Similarly, what scared you once might be a happy emotion now. We recall the times we messed in school with pride and glory. Negative emotions can be beneficial. We get to know ourselves.

The Damage

Always being happy is a false façade. It’s a myth, a lie. How can one always be happy? It’s a dead man’s emotion. He has gained eternal happiness because he has nothing else left to feel. And I don’t think that a dead person is also happy. He is at peace. A person who has left all the worldly feelings behind. This constant need to be happy all the time is very toxic. You put on a mask for the show and suffer in silence. You are upset, but put up a smile perpetuating a lie. The constant need to be happy comes from the outside world when we see others achieving their milestones. We feel the urge to comply with other’s emotions.

The Flip Side of Happiness

After a while, it is not good for your mental health to make keep up the inverted curve all the time. We eventually prop up new challenges in life, which might seem very stressful unnecessarily. Similarly, too much happiness can stop us from achieving our goals because we feel good and it slows down our creativity. Being over positive, we look away from the dark side, slowly rolling down the line.

Conclusions

It's simple. We should accept all our emotions as they come our way. Because they exist. Be real and authentic. We are humans and thus the existence of emotions. We can accept them, and be at peace with them. False emotions are okay as long as you are not lying to yourself. To upgrade and evolve ourself, we need to look at the ugly truth and our mediocrity to work on it. We need both the negatives and positive, to piece all the complete picture. Thus, we should give these emotions a place in ourselves.
